The Position

This opportunity arises as part of our plan for both growth and succession and we are seeking a  lawyer.

This is a pivotal role where you will be an integral member of this team, have direct client contact, and manage your own files under the supervision of our senior lawyers. 

The position is permanent full time.  An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated based on the successful candidate’s experience.

Do you have the six fundamentals to be the successful candidate?

  1. Admission to the Supreme Court of New South. 
  2. Possession of a current practising certificate issued by the Law Society of NSW.
  3. Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. 
  4. Well developed and proven strategic thinking skills and an appreciation of the political and social context in which local government operates. 
  5. Up to 3 years post admission experience.
  6. Experience in Local Government Law, Planning and Environment Law is advantageous but not essential.

The Strategic Planning Unit are seeking a Planning Agreements Officer to provide para-professional support to the team assisting with the preparation and administration of planning agreements.

This is an ideal position for a detail orientated individual with excellent organisational skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. You’ll tackle complex and interesting legal scenarios managing the end to end process of negotiating, reviewing and the administration of planning agreements.

You will liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders, both internal and external and must be able to build strong relationships and enjoy working as part of a team.

As the Planning Agreements Officer, you’ll provide advice and support to Council’s Development Contributions Analysis Team as well as support the Senior Strategic Planner and Strategic Planning Coordinator on all things planning agreements.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced paralegal or lawyer looking for a more flexible work arrangement or a penultimate year law student looking for contracts, planning or construction law experience.

About the role

You will be joining a supportive and high performing team on a full-time basis. You will be involved in a broad spectrum of Criminal Law matters with predominantly private clients and a select number of Criminal Law Legal Aid clients who come to us with a variety of challenging and complex indictable matters.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced, Criminal Defence Lawyer with 5+ years of post-admission experience with a proven track record in court advocacy including sentence matters, defended hearings, Judge alone and jury trials, show cause and Supreme Court bail applications and criminal appeals.

You will have carriage of matters from the initial client consultation and have experience appearing in the Local, District, Children's and Supreme Courts and the Court of Criminal Appeal.

Exceptional communication skills, ability to carry out effective negotiations and extensive experience in preparing written submissions, representations statements, affidavits and briefs to Counsel.

You will be self-motivated, committed to exceptional outcomes and the highest quality of client care. You will have the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a professional team.
