Key responsibilities include

  • Ability to advise on all areas of Estate Law

The Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) is responsible for the review and approval of research projects involving human participants, their personally identifiable records, or human tissue, and for the provision of advice to the University on related matters. The HREC considers applications for ethics approval from staff and students of the University, and any external researchers wishing to conduct human research at the University.

The national requirements that are pivotal to the Committee’s operation are contained in the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research 2007 (updated 2018). This can be viewed at https://nhmrc.gov.au/about-us/publications/national-statement-ethical-conduct-human-research-2007-updated-2018. The Preamble and Section 1 provide an excellent overview of the purpose of the National Statement and ethical principles applicable to all human research.

The HREC meets once a month (excluding January) at the University’s Callaghan Campus, usually on the third Wednesday of the month. Meetings commence at 12.30pm with a light lunch provided, and usually extend for 2-4 hours. Members can also attend the scheduled meetings via Zoom.

This is a volunteer role. Where necessary, members are provided with a parking voucher for each meeting and external members can be reimbursed travelling costs (per kilometre for use of a private car) and other expenses directly related to performing the duties of a member.
